Mafia II is a somewhat linear third-person shooter game, and
is the sequel to Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven. The game is
developed by 2K Czech, previously known as Illusion
Softworks, and published by 2K Games. Development of
Mafia II was announced on
August 21, 2007 at the Leipzig Games Convention. The game is set in the 1940's and
1950's in Empire Bay, a fictional city that is based on New
York City, Los Angeles, Chicago
and San Francisco. The name is a reference to
New York's state nickname "The Empire State".
Mafia II is available for Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. The game was released
to North America on August 24, 2010, and to Europe on
August 27, 2010. The Mac OS X
version of Mafia II: Director's Cut was pulished
by Feral Interactive and released on December 1, 2011.
