In this article, we will demo you how to root Redmi 2/Redmi 2 Prime with CWM and SuperSu 2.46. We have documented everything for you to root your Xiaomi Redmi 2.

Summary of terms
CWM - this passes extra security layers while flashing or update something like zip or ROM. WE Will show install Cwm with a recovery.img file.
SUPERSU - this will manage root permission to apps.

Note - enable USB debugging mode. By head over to additional Settings—-> Developer Mode and enable USB Debugging. This is mandatory to flash the custom ROM.

How to Root Redmi 2

We will provide you ADB and FastBoot files. And recovery.img file to install CWM recovery.

Total 4 Download required for rooting redmi 2

Download #1. ADB and Fastboot Zip file. 1MB - Download

Download #2. Recovery.img file - 9MB (For CWM) - Download

Download #3. Additionally install ADB latest 1.4 drivers Official XDA link - download

Download #4 SuperSu zip - download SuperSu latest zip and place the zip into SD CARD - latest supersu zip 2.46 - download

Follow these Steps to ROOT REDMI 2

STEP 1. Download the files and extract adb and fastboot zip on your desktop, it will create a folder where the file will be excreted. Rename the folder Redmi2.

STEP 2. Now extract recovery.img zip and put the recovery.img file inside Redmi2 folder.(in same adb and fastboot folder.)

STEP 2 (a). Place the Supersu zip inside your SD CARD.

STEP 3. Now it's time to plug your Xiaomi Redmi 2 to the computer, wait while Windows install the drivers (optional).

And if you observe a no-driver install situation you need to Install ADB Driver ( Download #3)

STEP 4. Now you need to enter in your phones Fastboot mode (it's required because it enable transfer directly to phones system to install CWM img file)

After Redmi connected to PC successful, and it shows ADB Driver installed. Now turn off your phone and start it by pressing Power button + Volume Down button at the same time. It will open Fastbootmode.

( method 2 - start phone by power button + volume up button and choose fastboot mode)

STEP 5. Now open the folder redmi2 and press Shift and right click and select open commend prompt from here. / it may be very confusing to you if you are doing this first time.

--- Open the folder and Press Keyboard's SHIFT button then Mouse's Right Button. You will see an addictional option "Open Commend prompt"
It will open comment prompt windows box.

Now type - fastboot devices

It will tell you if your phone is connected via fastboot mode.

Now type - ( before check that you placed Download #2 and excrete the recovery.img file to the Redmi2 folder.)

Type - fastboot boot recovery.img

It will install the CWM recovery, and that's what you need.

Now type - fastboot reboot (optional)

STEP 6. Turn on your phone while pressing power button + volume up at the same time.

You will see CWM recovery menu, [Like this image] select Install update from zip file, LOCATE the location where you place the Supersu zip ( step 2 (a) )
And proceed flashing it.

( Root Redmi 2 by flashing SuperSu 2.46 zip to enable root access.)

download this file - Click to Download Redmi 2 Stock Recovery 2.0.1

And extract and flash recovery.img file using, PC adb can commends or using fleshify app.

How to UNROOT redmi 2

we think that you have SuperSu installed on your redmi 2. Open SuperSu app on your android and go to Settings click - Full Unroot. Then restart your android redmi 2.
